The course will include units in dressing, colouring and styling hair, creating an image, basic photographic make up, body art, application of make up and tanning techniques. Practical assessments on models will be graded as Pass, Credit or Distinction. The course is assignment based with written tasks being set weekly.

You will be able to progress onto a Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing, Barbering or Media Make up or an apprenticeship if you are successful in your studies. View Study Programme Information.

Lessons

We have our very own commercial Spa Academy Hair and Beauty studios, including a spa, five hairdressing salons, a specialist barbering salon, a nail room, four beauty therapy studios and a media make up studio.

We also take our students to regular external events such as trade exhibitions, fairs and seminars, and trips to Wella, Illamasqua and Dennis Williams, to enhance their knowledge and learning experience.

To help our students learn about working in the industry, we host an annual industrial week where a number of employers and manufacturers such as Dermalogica, Jane Iredale and NSI come in to college to teach extra-curricular skills and provide advice on how to gain employment or progress to the next stage of your career. Many of these employers also offer work placements and voluntary opportunities, to help our students become ready for the workplace.

In additional to this, students also have the opportunity to take part in community events at schools, community centres and charity events which builds confidence, skills and enhances your CV.
